SURFACE PREPARATION
The process of restoring and painting consists of several important steps that must be carefully followed in order to achieve a quality result.
The surface to be painted must be thoroughly cleaned of dust, dirt and foreign matter, using a professional Leather Ultimate Cleaner.
In the case of heavy soiling and grease stains in the leather, the dirt and grease must first be removed using the Leather Degreaser.
After thorough cleaning and preparation, the leather should be degreased using the Leather Alcohol Cleaner or the Leather Liquid Degreaser.
If your leather is damaged or the paintwork is damaged, you should first remove the loose old paintwork with the Leather Prep or the Leather Solvent Cleaner.
After thorough cleaning and preparation of the leather for painting, apply the Leather Primer with the Leather Cross Linker X 5-10% of the product.
PAINT APPLICATION
Shake the paint thoroughly before application. In order to obtain a surface with the highest decorative qualities, it is recommended to apply the paint in even, thin coats by spraying with an airbrush or airbrush.
Pneumatic spraying by airbrush or airbrush gun. Can be diluted with distilled water. Nozzle diameter: 0.5 to 1.2 mm. Pressure: 1.1-8 bar (depending on airbrush or spray gun model). Compressed air must be free from water and oil. Paint must be thoroughly mixed and passed through a 190 micron filter before application.
Application with sponge, brush or roller: The optimum viscosity allows application by hand, touching up minor spots on the leather, creating a base coat for further treatment of the leather or restoring the colour.
TOP COAT APPLICATION
After painting, it is advisable to protect the leather surface with the Leather Top Coat and 5-10% of the Leather Cross Linker X polyurethane fixative.
LeTech Leather Top Coat enhances the abrasion and durability of the leather finish.
With the LeTech EXPERT LINE range of protective coatings, you can choose from a variety of matt or gloss finishes to give your leather the touch and feel you want from our range of unique protective coat additives:
- Leather Slip Additive;
- Leather Wax-Effect Additive;
- Leather X-Guard Additive;
- Leather Casein Additive;
- Leather Thickening Agent.
The Leather Top Coat is applied as a final step, after the leather has been repaired and coloured, to ensure a permanent hold. The Leather Thickening Agent is ideally applied by spraying with an airbrush or airbrush gun. This allows you to get an even film and the necessary protective coating characteristics. Avoid applying too much varnish as too thick layers of barrier varnish can discolour the leather and make it harder to handle.
The drying time of the Leather Top Coat depends on the temperature and humidity of the environment. The Leather Top Coat can usually be used after 2-3 hours after restoration, but the complete curing and crystallization process takes 8-12 hours.
It is not recommended to expose the leather to cleaning agents and application of various leather care products in the first week after leather restoration and the Leather Top Coat application. One week after application, the leather can be used without restrictions.
INSTRUMENT CLEANING
After all coatings have been applied, rinse the tools used thoroughly with water and, if necessary, use LeTech Leather Prep paint remover.
